Oh the Lessons We Learn . . .

Oh the lessons we learn

Oh the lessons we learn

When we have touched the hot stove and got burned

When we trip and fall

Because there’s no tread on our shoes left at all

When we fall down the stair

Because we didn’t hold the available handrail

When we overspend our money

Only to find out that being broke isn’t funny

When the one we long for and chase

Plans to marry to another in haste

When we finally take that exotic vacation

But arrive and wish we opted for a week in bed, staycation

When we are a fool

Ignorant, naive, just trying to be cool

If we drove down the closed road, past the sign and gate

We will have to turn around, backtrack and hope we aren’t late

The lessons we learn can be severe

Because we aren’t working with wisdom but rather impatience or fear

The painful moment teaches us in a way

Sadly, some of us can only can learn “the hard way”

An easier way to learn in life is by watching others

Because we can’t stay in bed, out of the game and under the covers

Read a few biographies or study those you admire

These reveal how everyone has to “walk through the fire”

We can be mindful, cautious and careful next time

Navigating mistakes and not repeating the crime

There is a lesson in everything right now

To err is to be human, anyhow
